ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate Cyanidin-3-O-beta-d-glucopyranoside on improvement and protection for erectile function. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats (12wks old) were divided into three groups (n=12 in each): normal control, diabetes (DM), and diabetes with Cyanidin-3-O-beta-d-glucopyranoside (C3G) concentration materials treatment (DM+C3G). DM and DM+C3G group received a single injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg), and 4 wk after induction of diabetes, DM+C3G group were treated with daily C3G (10 mg/kg) dissolved in water for 8 wk. After 12 wk of streptozotocin injections, rats in each group underwent intracavernosal pressure measurement (ICP) and then the corporal tissues were sampled. RESULTS: DM group showed markedly lower erectile parameters than those in the control group, whereas rats in the DM+C3G group showed improved erectile function by minimizing corporal apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS: The current study is the first to suggest that Cyanidin-3-O-beta-d-glucopyranoside may have a potency to improve and protect erectile function in a rat model of diabetic erectile dysfunction.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Our purpose was to conduct a screening test for urethritis or cervicitis as a sexually transmitted disease (STD) by using multiplex polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and to determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, and Trichomonas vaginalis in asymptomatic people. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From July 2010 to December 2010, 709 persons who came to the hospital for a general checkup were tested. Multiplex PCR assays were done with first voided urine samples or endocervical swabs by use of the Seeplex(R) STD6 ACE Detection kit. RESULTS: The mean age in this study was 45.4+/-8.1 years. Among the 709 persons, 229 (32.3%) had a positive result for at least one microorganism, 48 (6.8%) had two different species, 6 (0.8%) had three different species, and 1 person had four different species. The overall prevalence of asymptomatic STDs such as urethritis or cervicitis was 7.1% (50/709). The prevalence rates of chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, and Trichomonas vaginalis infection in asymptomatic persons were 5.6% (40/709), 0.4% (3/709), 0.3% (2/709), 22.1% (157/709), 11.6% (82/709), and 1.1% (8/709), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: With only a single sample, we could identify the prevalence rates of six microorganisms and the overall proportion of urethritis or cervicitis in asymptomatic people. This proportion cannot be neglected; therefore, screening tests for sexually transmitted diseases such as urethritis or ervicitis should be recommended to asymptomatic people.

ABSTRACT

Laparoscopic procedures have been accepted as a safe, effective treatment modalities and are well tolerated by patients. Although incidences of major vascular injuries following laparoscopic procedures are rare, they are important in that they can cause serious morbidity or death. From February 1993 to November 1996, we experienced 3 cases of vessel injury during laparoscopic surgery. In the first case, the right hepatic artery was injured during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We converted to open surgery immediately. The second case involved a scrotal hematoma which developed immediately after a transabdominal preperitoneal(TAPP) laparoscopic hernia repair. We opened the inguinal region anteriorly 2 days after the surgery and confirmed the bleeding from the inferior epigastric artery. In the third case, the left common iliac artery was injured during trocar insertion for a laparoscopic appendectomy, and it was unnoticed. One hour after the operation, we had to open the abdomen due to fresh bleeding from the drainage. All three patients had no morbidity or mortality after the definite surgery. We conclude that if there is any suspicion of vascular injuries, immediate conversion to open procedures is mandatory, and appropriate vascular surgical techniques should be applied to lessen the morbidity and the mortality.

ABSTRACT

Cytomegalovirus(CMV) commonly infects immunocompromised patient, including those with malignant disease, immunosuppression (particularly that induced by steroid therapy), organ transplantation AIDS. Involvement of the gastrointestinal tract is often associated with disseminated infection. Enteric involvement is expressed by inflammation, hemorhage, and ulceration. CMV is postulated to cause submucosal capillary and arteriolor vasculitis that can result in ischemic injury. CMV induced gastritic and colonic ulcers have not previously been reported in Korea. We report a patient of malignancy who had gastric and colonic ulcers assoicated with CMV infection whieh showed chracteristic histological finding of CMV infection in biopsed specimen.

ABSTRACT

Since 1976, 938 cases of E.R.C.P. were performed at the Kwangju Christian Hospital & since December 1981, 19 cases of Endoscopic papillotomy(E.P.T.) were performed, following Results were obtained: 1) Out of 19 cases which were diagnosed by E.R.C.P.; 17 cases of C.B.D. stones, 1 case of ascaris in bile duct, 1 case of remained C.B.D. stone diagnosed by T-tube cholangiogram after operation, & E.P.T. was done in total 19 casees. 2) During 1st E.P.T., 2 cases were removed by Dormia basket under direct visualization & during 2nd E.P.T., 5 cases were removed by Dormia basket under direct visulization & 12 cases were passed in stool & 3x3.5cm large stone passage was found. 3) Complications of E.P.T. were noted in 2 cases: 1 case of bleeding was treated by blood transfusion & 1 case of Acute pancreatitis was treated by medical care.
